It’s all set to be a busy two years for HASSELL’s Ken Maher who was recently announced as the National President Elect of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA), following on from an announcement in February that he would also be taking on the role of President for the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC).

The 2009 AIA Gold Medal recipient was named as the National President Elect at the AIA’s recent meeting in Melbourne and will take up the position after the Institute’s AGM finishes in May. As President Elect, Maher will take over the National Presidency from the 2015 National President Jon Clements of Jackson Clements Burrows Architects in 2016. Clements is set take up his role of National President from current President David Karotkin after the AGM.

Beyond these roles, Maher is also a Life Fellow of the AIA as well a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA), and is an active member of the architecture community.

Maher’s prominence is well known and he has previously been outspoken on the important role architects play in raising public awareness on climate change, as well as their duty to create practical responses to the failures of the past.
