Design and consultancy firm for natural and built assets, Arcadis recently announced the acquisition of environmental remediation business, Environmental Strategies.

The acquisition will see Environmental Strategies’ five per cent market share in Australia’s environmental remediation market passed onto Arcadis, strengthening its position in the billion dollar industry.

The 28-strong team at Environmental Strategies have been welcomed by Arcadis, who say it was a very important strategic acquisition. The acquisition will give Arcadis new specialisation in environmental investigations, contaminated land remediation, environmental management and environmental auditing.

The acquisition was a key part of Arcadis’ Australian growth plan when they consolidated their business arms in Australia in 2014. Environmental Strategies will join Arcadis’ Environmental and Project Services business to support Arcadis’ strong growth in the environmental consulting sector.

Environmental Strategies Managing Director Rod Harwood observes that the acquisition will allow them to add their strong Australian knowledge to Arcadis’ global environmental expertise and leadership. Having performed very strongly in Australia, delivering some of the most innovative environmental solutions across the nation, the company can now add even more value to their current clients and grow into new and exciting markets.

The environmental remediation market in Australia has grown rapidly due to contaminated land and water becoming a significant issue. McDowall explained that much of the land to be redeveloped over the next decade was previously heavy industry and often contaminated with dangerous chemicals. The acquisition of Environmental Strategies will help Arcadis implement solutions and continue to improve the quality of life for Australians.

Environmental Strategies will immediately join Arcadis across Australia, with all staff, senior leadership and project leads retained.
