Entry is now open to the 2016 Good Design Awards which celebrates excellence in cutting edge design, innovation and creativity at a national and international level.

Managed by Good Design Australia, this year’s program brings together an exciting number of awards and events under the Good Design Festival.

Considered Australia’s oldest and one of its most prestigious awards for design and innovation, the Good Design Awards program traces its origins back to 1958 and has one of the most diverse ranges of categories in the world with seven main design disciplines spanning more than 25 entry categories. An independent expert judging panel carefully assesses each entry to select winners of the internationally recognised Good Design Selection and Good Design Award.

This year's Architectural Design category will be split into three sub categories including Urban Design and Public Spaces, Commercial and Residential Architecture and Interior Design.

The jury comprises of industry experts drawn from specialist fields including Industrial Design, Engineering Design, Software-Electronics Design, Automotive Design, Architectural Design, Business Model Design, Digital Design, Communications Design, Social Innovation and Design Strategy.

2015’s Good Design Award of the Year went to the Tesla Model S, a brilliant example of disruptive design which, according to Dr Brandon Gien from Good Design Australia, perfectly embodies the mission of these Awards, which is to imagine a better Australia and a more sustainable and prosperous world through design.

Gien says the Awards are about recognising the important role that design plays in taking innovative ideas and transforming them into commercially successful outcomes. He adds that the Awards program aims to attract the very best in design and innovation and promote these examples to the world, inspiring others to adopt a design-led approach in their work.

Good Design Australia will once again work with Vivid Sydney, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas, to present the 2016 Good Design Festival in May this year at the iconic Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT) in Sydney. This year’s Good Design Festival brings together the annual Good Design Awards Gala Night and After Party, the Young Australian Design Awards, the newly established Design Entrepreneur Awards and the Good Design Showcase, an interactive design exhibition that will be open to the general public.

Entries to the 2016 Good Design Awards close on 15 April 2016.
