Taubmans paints were specified for the interior surfaces of a new $170 million, seven-storey apartment development in the West Australian suburb of Subiaco, just a few kilometres west of Perth.

A project by WA’s largest and most trusted apartment developer Finbar, the Subi Strand is cleverly set around The Strand, a fully landscaped pedestrian laneway featuring retail and commercial tenancies. The 245-apartment complex also includes a gym, sauna, theatre and pool, offering a highly desired lifestyle to residents. The apartments are available in an impressive 22 different designs with a variety of 1, 2 or 3 bedroom configurations.

Sustainability being a key consideration throughout the design and development process, Finbar ensured all apartments were designed to achieve an average of 6 Star NatHERS energy rating. Some of the green measures incorporated throughout the sustainably designed Subi Strand include energy monitoring; a 29kW solar panel system; LED and motion sensor lighting; centralised gas hot water system; waste reduction mechanical bin compaction unit; and solar pool heating.

Continuing the sustainable design process, the developer extended their green focus to the fittings, fixtures and even the applied finishes selected for the Subi Strand project. Aware that not just any paint supplier would suffice, Finbar chose Taubmans for their commitment to producing innovative products, while the builders, Hanssen were also in accord when it came to the paint brand. Colin Verth, Procurement Manager at Hanssen explained that their longstanding relationship with Taubmans proved invaluable when deciding on a paint supplier for such a large-scale project.

Taubmans’ Pure Performance was specified throughout the interiors, as the formulation of the paint achieved a great balance of opacity, application, serviceability and gloss levels - all the important attributes of a quality paint product.

According to Verth, the Pure Performance paint used throughout the Subi Strand development met with all of their needs while the low VOC formula made it the ideal product to help them achieve the Greenstar rating. He added that the Taubmans paint was not only a superior product to work with but also delivered an outcome that more than exceeded their expectations.

In addition to its low VOC and low odour formulation, Pure Performance is also exclusively engineered with Microban antibacterial protection. All of these important paint properties contributed to achieving the best indoor air quality for the residents of Subi Strand.

Taubmans is the only Australian paint brand to be approved by the National Asthma Council Australia’s Sensitive Choice program.
