A new golf driving range on the Gold Coast stands tall and can easily be seen from the highway with its huge net stretching out from the 90 golf driving bays spread out across its 3 stories. The structure is built around large 600mm x 400mm steel columns that have been clad in Futurewood CleverDeck solid composite timber Slate Grey decking boards. The low maintenance decking looks great as cladding and transforms the beams helping to create the required architectural look.

Futurewood collaborated with the builders in order to provide a solution to the method used to fix the decking boards to the columns. The original concept was going to be difficult to install so a custom made board was considered to both improve and simplify the fixing.
CleverDeck 138mm decking boards are typically supplied in a grooved edge board that helps facilitate the concealed fixing option that is the preferred fixing method for the boards when used for decking. For this project however, the cladding look included face fixing the boards with raised head screws. A special die was then made to produce custom square edge boards that allowed for a clean edge on the corners of the steel columns.

Square edge decking boards were also used as rub rails on the facility walls to protect them from a high number of trips made by the food and beverage carts that traverse the walkways keeping the thirsty and hungry patrons well serviced.

The new facility is set on a large site among the Gold Coast theme parks, apart from the composite timber decking clad columns there is also a large screen fence and sliding gate built around the service side of the facility separating it from the car park. The screen fence features Futurewood EnviroSlat screening slats in the size 70mm x 15mm and in the colour Slate Grey and to keep the composite timber theme going there is also a 300m long pedestrian bridge featuring 138mm x 23mm CleverDeck Original solid composite timber decking boards in the colour Slate Grey joining the golf park to an adjacent theme park that, on first glance, appears to take you directly to a large roller coaster.
